Progress of Flip Flops
Phase I: Project Start:
Date Started: October 6, 2007
Background : I got the idea to give back to Jamaica when I went during the Summer of 2006 in July. When going with the program JASAC (Jamaican and American students Association through Cultural Awareness) we went to an orphanage called Blossom Garden 's Children Home, I saw that many of the children did not have shoes and if they did they were torn up. So this year for my senior project I decided to give back to people that are less fortunate than me.
Advertisement: Wrote letters to a number of businesses seeking assistance, went on the morning radio show V101.1 with Lee Perkins and Andrea, was in school newsletter, school wide emails, was in the church newsletter at Center of Praise Ministries, went to a banquet at Blacks in Government (BIG) and asked family members and friends to help me by sending emails about my project and seeking donations to help in the efforts.
Phase II Jamaica Bound:
Date went to Jamaica : December 18, 2007 - January 4, 2008
Number of Flip Flops Delivered to Jamaica : 352
What Happened in Jamaica : When going to Jamaica my initial plan was to make the donation to one orphanage, however I decided to share the donations with the other orphanages in the Western Region of Jamaica. The Western Region has a total of 8 orphanages and I was able to donate to 4 of the 8 orphanages.
Phase III Finishing up:
As of April 19, 2008 I have collected an additional 380 pairs of flip flops. It is still my goal to collect 268 more pairs to reach my goal of 1000 pairs of flip flops to Jamaica .
Number of flip flops: coming soon... 268 more flip flops
Returning to Jamaica : I plan on going back to Jamaica on July 9, 2008 - July 24, 2008 to deliver the remaining flip flops to the Jamaican orphanages in the Western Region and some to the Southern Region as well.
As of May 28, 2008 I need only 75 more Flips Flops to reach my goal.
Won't you help by making
