Frequent asked questions about the program

Q. What steps are necessary to participate in the program?
A. All youth that would like to participate in this cultural exchange program are required to complete an application, go through an interview with staff members, and participate in monthly enrichment classes.

Q. Where can I get a copy of the application?
A. The applications are posted on the web site and can be printed from the site. You may also call JASAC at (916) 478-2851 and request an application.

Q.What if I don't get a letter with an interview date?
A. You may call the office number and ask if your application was processed.

Q. What happens after the interview?
A. All applicants will receive notice if they have been accepted into the program.

Q.What are some of the reason student's may not be accepted into the program?
A. The application was not complete, failed to show up for interview on time, and did not appear to be a good fit for this program.

Q. How are the interviews conducted?
A. You will go before a panel that will have staff members, former students, and community members.

Q. Is the program free?
A. No the program is not free, but we will assist you with earning some of the expenses necessary for the trip.

Q. Can more than one student participate from the same household?
A. Yes, if they meet the requirements.

Q. Can adults and parents go on this trip?
A. If a parent has a desire to travel with the group we will consider them as a possible chaperone, but they must be willing to work with the group, and space needs to be available.
